Israël Silvestre

French printmaker and draftsman

Israël Silvestre was one of the most important designers of topographical views of buildings active during the reign of Louis XIV. He was received into the Royal Academy in 1670. He was appointed in 1667 'dessinateur du Roy' and he was given a residence in the Louvre in 1669. In 1673, he was drawing master of the Dauphin's children. He is known for his drawings and engravings of the Royal Residences.
